Walking with my camera: Part II

You can check out the some of my favorite scenes from my morning walk with my camera in the Photo Album located in the navigation bar under The Sides.

The cottage with all the flowers is my favorite house in the neighborhood. Geraniums in the window boxes, begonias in the garden, a border of lavender, lovely roses, and climbing vines that frame the windows and garage door completely charm me. You can't see in the picture, but the windows are stained glass, and the front door is narrow.

I love the white chicken coop with the blue-green paint peeling off the doors. There are chickens in the area but I can't ever get close enough to get them in my pictures.

There are "secret" gardens in small courtyards off the main street, often these are paved areas between the house and the garage or between a barn and a commercial building. The past and the present share space--agriculture and commerce are side by side.

Roadside shrines are common here. I'm curious about who builds them and who tends them.  The ones in my photo album are located near bus stops. The smaller of the two is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The other one is to Mary--and there are always flowers on the small altar inside. I've never tried the door to see if it opens....

I love these. Everything looks so green and clean! I love the charm of that cottage, and the idea of flower gardens fit in everywhere. I want a house that looks like one of these brick cottages, with the flower boxes and the shutters! It actually looks like the older areas in the town where Kory and I went to school...*sigh*. Makes me homesick.

When you come back, will you miss these things?

At the risk of sounding whiny... The Santa Ana winds are blowin' hard this morning and my daughter decided to join the ranks of those children recently opposed to school attendance. Thus, I joined the ranks this morning of the at-their-wit's-end moms trying not to give in to the school strike.

Your Belgium looks very lovely to me and after another morning like this one, I might be asking if you have a spare room in your house. For one.

I can see why the cottage is your favorite. It's lovely and charming. Belgium is a beautiful place.

When we were in Ireland recently, we noticed a large number of roadside shrines there, too.

Very beautiful area you live in.

Oh, I love that cottage. No wonder it's your favourite. I could settle down nicely there.

The pictures are beautiful. It looks just as I imagined Belgium. I love your front door.

I used to work with a girl who raised hedgehogs for pets. They can be taught to use a kitty litter box. But don't tell your kids I said so. :)

Okay...now I've just got to find out what's behind that door.

Love all the photos. Was not familiar with shrines in Europe--have seen them in the Caribbean. The colors are wonderful. Our chicken coops don't look that nice for sure! These photos will complement your words well when you assemble your writings into a book on Belgium.

Belated congrats on your perfect post award! Way cool and well deserved!

Wonderful photos. We're planning a trip next year, and heartily are debating whether to go to Europe or some warm island. I'm thinking we're going to Europe.
