Au revoir, ma petite

I got to take her home this morning for what would be her last day. I'm glad we had one more day at home and a chance to enjoy the rare treat of sun streaming through the windows.

The trip into the city to see the radiologist was long in every sense of the word. The sun setting, a fog rising, the sense of the curtain being drawn not just across the window or the day but a time in our life.

Her pain laid out in black and white on the monitor. Cancer. Not in one big mass but in lesions all over.

We were going to wait until morning to say goodbye but couldn't.

So this ordeal that started 48 hours ago but feels like a lifetime is over.

All we can do is hold each other...

I am sorry to read this very sad post about Amy. She will, as you know, remain forever alive in your heart.

Words can rarely express the emotions but I am truly sad for your loss. It is a difficult time but try to remember all the good you had together.

I am in Overijse and was just reading these older posts and coincidentally, my cat Gabby, 18.5 years old (at least) !!!!!, was in the hospital this week with kidney/intestinal problems. Her kidneys are failing and she had a 'crisis' and became dehydrated. She came home yesterday evening. She is very skinny but seems to feel OK considering. Today she has been eating, walking around the house and garden and enjoying the sunshine. The vet told me a few days ago that she might never come home. I told myself if she came home, she could sleep wherever she wanted. She is curled up in the guest room, in front of a heater (her favorite spot). I've had her since I was 19 years old and it was estimated she was 2 y/o at the time. She has been through 6 houses, 2 US states, 2 continents, 2 kids, 2 hamsters but just 1 husband. I take things week by week and this was not her week to go. I know how you feel, she's just always been there. She's been old and a "burden" for a long time but she's my burden and I promised to care for her to the best of my ability. Most people thought I was crazy to bring a 17 year old cat to Belgium but she did fine and it was the right decision. I understand your sadness at losing one of your family members. Amy had a long and happy life with a loving family and no one, human or cat, could ask for more than that.
