I knew I'd forget something
The bowls in the dishwasher? They weren't supposed to be unloaded into their usual spot on the open shelves but into our Secure Cabinet of Kitchen Stuff behind the flagged "Do Not Pack" door.
Instead they're packed into one of the gazillion boxes stacked to the ceiling. Oh well. As you can see, I like bowls, so being forced to buy four more won't break my heart. ; )

All good wishes to you and your family for a smooth transition! Will you continue to blog for all your countless admirers?
Thank you for the kind words. If you want to read all the Belgian posts, you can go into my By Topic archive and choose either Life in Belgium or Expat Essays. The latter includes all the essays published by Expatica.com, the other includes those plus some additional pieces.
Cindy Lane of The Belgian Years splits her time between San Diego, Texas, and Brussels. I tease her that she should call her blog "The Belgian Months." She's due back in Brussels in about two weeks.
As for me, I do plan to keep blogging when I get back to the U.S. I'm sure things will change on my site and in my life but I'm not sure how. I'll just let it evolve and see where I land!
These are only the bowls I stored on my open shelves. I had classic soup bowls in the cupboards, and I have more bowls in storage in the U.S.
Lynn,
The patterned bowls are all from Poland. The solids are Longaberger and Wal-Mart classics. The saltglaze stoneware is Beaumont Pottery from Maine, and the lovely green bowl with the fluted edge and ash glaze is my all time favorite, made by Dan Finnegan.
I want you to know I went bowl hunting today because of you.
Just so you know, they don't make 'em pretty like that here in the U.S. I came home with 0.
So, now I STILL only have 3 bowls. :(
I'm putting in a request for my birthday now. Pretty bowls.
Maybe I should take up pottery and make my OWN???!
:)
Ha, ha. I have a weakness for beautiful dishes and pottery--art you can USE. You know, frozen pizza tastes better if it's served on a hand painted plate.
Go with the kids to one of those paint-your-own-pottery places. Three bowls, happy memories.
yet another thing in common!!
Sending you some sleep...
and when your back in the States..I'll send you some bowls..as a house warming...
