Meester can stand for things like Master or lawyer etc (but Peter will surely provide more clarity on that one) ... and wandelpad = walking path.

*snort* My thoughts exactly.
(which means nothing in Dutch, there's no connotation like in English) was indeed "a well-known teacher and school director who loved culture and nature" from the greenbelt S-E of Brussels, whose life story I've not yet been able to find on Google.
He appears to have lived in Sterrebeek (that's near Brussels airport) and the hiking trail is a 10 km (7 mile) walk through meadows and rolling hills.
