Built in the 13th century, the Abbey de Villers later fell into disrepair. The stained glass is gone, the roof missing in many places, the walls covered with ivy. We visited on the day of the spring festival and were struck by the sense of the sacred that prevailed even as so much of what had been built laid in ruins.
