Oops, she did it again!

Oops, she did it again! Melanhead has tagged me! Evil poking.  And so to honor her request, here is the “Four Things About Me” meme:

Four Jobs I Have Had  A lot of work.

  • Residence Hall receptionist
  • Sales clerk in a shoe store
  • Journalist/photographer
  • Research associate for an environmental consulting firm

Four Movies I Watch Again and Again Bouncing a ball.

I don’t really watch movies again and again, but I’ve seen these more than once:

  • Bridget Jones Diary
  • Love Actually
  • There’s Something About Mary
  • When Harry Met Sally

Four Places I Have Lived Relieved.

  • Long Island, NY
  • Rockbridge County, Virginia
  • Fredericksburg, Virginia
  • McAlester, Oklahoma

Four TV Shows I Watch Kicking a can.

Here’s a little known V-Grrrl fact:  I don’t watch TV. Yeah, I'm a freak.

After I graduated from high school, I went more than 20 years without owning a TV. It seemed there was always a better use for $500 (or more) so we never bought one.  In 2002, we inherited a small TV from E’s dad and use it to watch DVDs. No cable, no TiVo, no satellite, no network broadcasts. My kids didn't have access to TV until they were school-age and are only permitted to watch it on weekends. I'm a bad, bad woman, people. Psychotic.

Confession: I have seen Friends on DVD and love that show. Just purchased all ten seasons on DVD for E-Man and I's birthdays, which are next week.

Four Favorite Books Can't write anything.

  • A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
  • The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters by Elizabeth Robinson
  • I Don’t Know How She Does It by Allison Pearson
  • Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott

Four Places I’ve Vacationed Jealous.

  • York Harbor, Maine
  • Duck, NC
  • New York City
  • Paris

Four Websites I Read Every Day New idea.

(I read about 15 blogs, but keep in mind, some of my favorite bloggers don’t update every day.)

  • Soul Gardening
  • Come to Find Out
  • CNN
  • For Better or For Worse comic strip

Four Favorite Foods Chef.

  • Dark chocolate truffles
  • Fried eggs, bacon, toast
  • Fresh apples and apple desserts
  • Potatoes (baked, fried, mashed, any way!)

Four People I’m Going to Tag  Harassment.

  • Shirl Grrrl
  • Granola Grrrl
  • Katie Cowhorns
  • Erni Jo

Good movie choices - I love all of those. Looks like we share a background in residential life!

I don't see anything wrong with the absence of TV in your life or in your family's. I think too many people zone out in front of the box when they can be doing so many other things to contribute to society (like blogging!).

Man.
Fredericksburg looks really good compared to those other three places.
Long Island = breast cancer.
Oklahoma = Not OK.
Rockbridge, Va.= Isn't that the state prison for women? Don' they BREAK rocks there???!

Tigerlily Sandowns posted today about not owning a TV. My kids are so addicted,I have no TV days and they have a fit on every one of them. It is so sad. I think what you have done is great.

The best part of owning a TV IS the DVD player hooked up to it.
Hmmm... movies you have seen more than once: Love Actually AND Bridget Jones? OK, fess up! It's because of Colin Firth!
:-)

Flubberwinkle, you are so on to me. Did I mention I own the whole Pride and Prejudice series on DVD as well?

Mike,

Just because I've come clean about my depression doesn't mean I want to discuss those Rockbridge years on the Internet. Sheez, can't a Grrrl have a secret? ; )

Watch it, Mike! There are a few of us Rockbridge County grrrls that read this blog. If you think we can bust up some rocks then just think what else we can bust up! And we know where Fredericksburg is, so we can find you! ;-)
You must have skipped the chapter on Virginia history where is says that Rockbridge County is otherwise known as God's Country. Just ask anyone that lives there! :-)

One other thing... since V-Grrrl confessed to not watching TV, I'll have to confess to never seeing either of the 2 above mentioned movies. I wouldn't recognize Colin Firth if he walked into my house. The last grown-up movie I watched was War of the Worlds and that was ONLY because J-Man bought it and he ONLY bought it because parts of it were filmed in Rockbridge County, VA not very far from my parents' home. I detest TomKat and usually refuse to watch any of his movies.

If Colin Firth walks into your house, lock the doors and call me, Ok?

YOu need to come to Brussels so we can stamp and watch chick flicks and you can familarize yourself with Colin's appeal--which, I admit, is a bit mysterious. Maybe it's the great hair...

Love Actually always always makes me cry. And I've been meaning to pick up an Anne Lamott book. It seems some of my favorite online writers read and love her.

Finally! -- I have found you -- *insert big, deep, impressive bow here* -- My people! I love that there are other folks without a TV. There's, what, 10 0r 12 of us by now? LOL I'm so glad Ditsy Chick (aka Denice) sent you over to my post. I've heard of you through the blogger-sphere grapevine...all good, of course. Will happily commence reading your blog and archives. Cheers!
