Not my day

The sky is dark and ugly like a bruise. It's 45 degrees out with 25 mph winds blowing rain against the windows. Wind chill in the low 30s.

Today's the day I help teach creative writing to E-Grrrl's class.

I need to step outside into face-lashing, bone-chilling, howling wind and rain and walk half a mile to the main street, wait for the bus in the cold, then hop off and walk to the school with my head bent into the wind.

Do. Not. Want. To. Go.

At. All.

But I won't let E-Grrrl or her classmates down.

Sigh.

Batten down the hatches. Resign myself to getting wet anyway.

I understand. I've had to cancel the last couple of days I help in my daughter's class, not because of weather but because of scheduling conflicts. She feels let down, and I feel guilty. Today, however, we're under a winter storm warning with up to a foot of snow expected. I guess I'm not making it to school today either.

I hear ya' on the waiting for the bus in crappy, freezing, rainy weather. I remember days when I used to take a taxi to work if it was just too miserable to face. Expensive, but... heck there were so many times when I braved it out.

When you get home, go directly to your Sanctuary and have a hot bath with some hot chcolate (better yet, an Irish coffee) and soak the cold away. We are having a windy, cold day as well. It's 22 now but feels like zero. Snow fell in the early morning, but it's just a tease. I'm thinking about going out to the orchard but we'll see how lazy I get.

Aww, what a good mom, though. Lucky kids!

Ahhhh...Sounds like almost every Monday morning at The Dept.! Going in to teach when you don't feel like teaching, and the kicker is, you'll be teaching people who feel that way about learning that day.

And there are always more of them than there are of YOU.
