Signs of spring or global warming

January

Cherry trees, blushing pink with blossoms, withstanding the gale force winds that pounded Belgium more than a week ago

Yellow crocuses embracing the gray skies and ignoring the frost

Bulbs pushing green shoots through the mud

Snow flurries surrendering to rain...

That's beautiful. I've been pondering on the strangeness of the weather as well. We have daffodils here in full bloom and they've beaten the snowdrops to it. I've not seen that before.

Just a quick note to let you know that due to changes off-line I am not going to have the time to blog like I used to and Mi.Minutia has gone on hiatus. I just wanted to stop by with a personal goodbye (beyond the one I just posted at MiMinutia). I enjoyed getting to know you and reading your site. Thanks for reading mine. Maybe, if and when things ease up off-line, I'll see you again someday. Until then...

I think there's definitely something to the global warming angle. Hard to tell in Texas, though, since the weather here is always bizarre like that.

Poetry. I say that because I just experienced a very real moment of reality standing in a park in Belgium looking at flowers and thinking about spring. Very nice. Amy would have loved it too.

No! Are you serious!? I'm jealous. We just got sent ANOTHER Alberta Clipper from the Canadians (and I used to like them SO MUCH!), and we are freezing here. I just trudged through snow to check and see if I could salvage any rosemary for my roast lamb today--got a few sprigs--and there is a lake effect snow advisory for a few counties east. We won't even see the thirties for the next 10 days. Crocuses? Not a chance. We won't have those until April.
