Weekend in Luxembourgh
We spent the weekend in Luxembourgh, a place we'd never visited before. Quite a remarkable city, with ancient cliffs and sturdy fortress and city walls dating back to the Middle Ages. Portions of the city are perched on top of the cliffs, but there's a "valley" below that's a verdant, wooded park. Recessed from the clamor of the city, it's a whole other world. The stucco houses reminded me of Italy.
The Place des Armes is known as the city's salon. Ringed by cafes, with a bandstand in its center, it pulsed with activity and people. I wish the shops in the adjacent streets had been open on Sunday because I missed my chance to shop on Saturday.
E took this spectacular photo Saturday night. For those of you in the States, it's 10 p.m. and not dark yet!

There was a McDonald's, a Pizza Hut, and a Chi-Chi's on the Place des Armes. This is the real reason Europeans hold Americans in such disdain. We're ruining Europe one franchise at a time.
re: "We're ruining Europe..."
Hey, they don't have to let "us" in there. If I were them, I'd just say no.
Made decades later, I revisited. With the exception of the +100 banks lining the Boulevard Royal downtown, Luxembourg city is a great town, with truly amazing country side and countless hidden treasures.
Regarding the US franchises: I know the feeling.. When I first visited Prague the central square was still 100% "genuine". Then the franchises invaded the Czech Republic (well, many of them German): the town turned into an historic theme park for countless tourists who quickly outnumbered the local population.
Still, the difference between Luxembourg and a equivalent sized US town is still more than 'significant' :-)
That last photo is of a bank! As Peter indicates, Luxembourgh is a financial center.
Truly spectacular shots!
The sun was in and out during the weekend and the light wasn't always favorable for photography.I had lots of shots with a washed out, almost white sky. UGH.
These are some of the best ones out of more than a hundred photos. When I'm taking pictures, my eye is always on the sky. I love a "moody sky" with an interesting play of color or texture.
