Desperate circumstances

So you say you don't NEED a cat? I'm here to tell you that even if you don't need one, there's one that needs you.

These cats were rescued by my friends Martina and Sylvie in Brussels. They're vaccinated, they're neutered and spayed, but unless they're adopted soon, their future is uncertain. Please, please, please help. We have been trying to place these cats for months, and there are more cats that need homes. Contact martina.mueller@ec.europa.eu .

Wish I could help, but I'm afraid the number of dumped "let's get a cute kitten" animals is just staggering, especially during the July/August vacation period. Pets have long become impulse purchases that are discarded like empty cans when no longer needed/wanted.

Local TV channel www.atv.be in Antwerp even offers weekly prime-time coverage showing amazing dogs that have been in the city asylum for weeks/months, without anyone showing any intent to give them a home.

Although Belgium has mandatory subcutaneous chip-tagging for all dogs, an estimated 15% are, and probably never will get tagged - at best ending up in a shelter.

For stray cats the situation is much worse.
I'm afraid it's an uphill battle.

Lots of stripey tabbies that are reminiscent of TravisCat. Good luck. I hope you find these vagabonds a home.

Poor kitties. I'd offer to help if I was in Belgium or didn't have too much responsibility already.

I was at a friend's house yesterday and her totally fuzzy and friendly cat hopped up into my lap and settled right down on me. It made me realize how much I miss having a cat.

They all look like nice kitties. ;)
I would take one, but the shipping. Heh.
